We all feel love at some point in our lives, but we all feel love in a different way and love affects us all differently. I want to give my opinion on how men and women differ when it comes to how we interpret love. When it comes to "loving" a woman, men generally start with their eyes: they look around to see who looks good. Then they "love" with their hands: if the woman feels right by the touch of her skin. Then they love with their penis: if they are sexually compatible they want to hold on to that woman. And finally they love with their hearts: if a woman makes them feel loved, the man will love them back. Men typically don't fall in love with a woman until AFTER having sex because sex is just a more prominent fixture in our brains. It's in a man's nature to want to reproduce and to procreate in order to maintain dominance. It shows through history that men always want power and control and wars were fought over what men wanted. The kings wanted to build armies of the perfect soldiers and wanted their sons to rule the kingdom. Men want to win. Winning means having the best and the most.
Men feel 3 different kinds of love:
1. Physical Love. We call this "love at first sight". It's when a man looks at a woman and feels attracted to her very strongly. This type of love is based purely on the physical appearance of the woman and not necessarily about the compatibility between them. It is in a man's nature to be attracted to a woman based on physical traits. If you think about the competitive nature that men have had since the beginning of time, you will see that men always want the biggest and the best of everything. Men take pride in having a gorgeous woman by their side they can be seen with by their friends and make other men jealous. It gives a man a sense of victory when another man looks at his wife or girlfriend and the other man's jaw hits the ground in envy. It makes us feel stronger and more masculine and it makes us feel like we have won a trophy for our success in scoring the winning goal for the team. It is simply just our innate need to win.
2. Sexual Love. This is when a man is sexually attracted to a woman. It's actually quite different than physical love because the man doesn't need to "see" the woman to be attracted to her. Instances such as making a phone call and a woman answers in a sultry sounding voice that is appealing. The man will usually find several more excuses to talk to her on the phone, possibly making the phone conversation longer or trying to set up a future excuse for another call. The man is turned on by the voice he hears over the phone and not by what she looks like. Obviously the man would be growing attached to this woman just by the sound of her voice, but the man would immediately decide upon hearing her voice that he wants to mate with her. Her voice is alluring and maybe her accent is pleasantly playful and he wants to have her voice in his ear in real-life and he will stop at nothing to make it happen! There are also other examples, like when you have a best friend that's a female and she and the guy have never discussed the desire or the option of getting physical because you basically grew up together and have always seen each other as siblings and always thought it would be "gross" to have any kind of physical relationship. Then one day you're both sitting on the couch together watching a movie and suddenly something ignites inside you. Maybe a part of you that is dark and lonely is suddenly awakened by the smell of her hair or the curve of her neck. Maybe the clothes she is wearing reminds you of some gorgeous model you saw in a magazine or in a movie. You never thought of her this way before but out of nowhere you are very attracted to her and your body temperature rises and you start to sweat and your heart is racing and beating so hard you can see it coming out of your chest! Why does this happen? It's called chemistry. Discussions about chemistry will follow in a later post.
3. Emotional Love. Yes, guys actually do feel emotional about women! Emotional love is when a man genuinely loves a woman so much that he is willing to do anything for her as if she is part of his family. Men are very defensive when it comes to family, so to be considered family to a man is a high honor if you think about it. A man will defend your honor and respect you no matter what the situation is if he loves you emotionally. This is the guy you want to marry. He will check on you to make sure you are doing well, he will leave you love notes sometimes when he leaves for work and you are still sleeping, he will always think of you when he stops at the store to get gas and he will buy you your favorite snack without even asking you if you want something. He will surprise you when you least expect it and a lot of times he will go broke just trying to make you happy. Emotional love is one of the most elusive forms of love for a man. Men don't let themselves get very emotional, that's why guys do guy stuff like shoot guns and fix cars and watch sports. It makes them feel manly and masculine and gets their competitive juices flowing. The right man will have the right balance of masculinity and emotion.
Women feel love in a different manner. Women start feeling for a guy when the guy can stimulate their mind. Then they want to be charmed, which touches their heart. After that the woman likes to get to know a man's hands, and finally a woman looks for a guy with a nice body. Women can fall in love with a man without even having contact with a man, all they need is for the man to know how to stimulate her mind and her heart. Women don't need to have sex with a guy to know she's in love.
Women feel the same stages of love that men do, but there are also some additional stages that most men just never reach. I will list the additional stages that women feel when falling in love with someone.
4. Spiritual Love. Women have extra senses. They are more in tune with nature and their surroundings so they feel more spiritually connected to things. When a woman has a sense about a man that she is spiritually connected to him, that feeling is usually considered an "other life" connection. That's when a woman says that she feels like she has known you your whole life but only just met you. It's not always a creepy stalker thing to hear a woman say that. They probably just feel some tingling sense that they already know you because of their connection to their surroundings. This kind of woman is really good to find because she is usually very attentive and is a few steps ahead of you because she already knows what you're thinking before you think it.
5. Friendly Love. Women have this strange ability to love a man but only love him as a friend. I'm sure most men have met a girl that they were "totally in love with" and the girl was like, "I love you but just as friends". Don't deny it. It happens. How women have the ability to "limit" their love for you at FRIEND, and not be able to go beyond that is still a mystery I'm looking into, but guys always have that inner voice that says, "Yeah I'd still do her if she was my friend" and we brag to our buddies about it and pretend it means nothing. Women can be in love with their friends. They just have that nature about them that makes it possible to love someone without feeling the desire to cross that line. If men understood this, they wouldn't have a problem with their wives or girlfriends having "guy friends". It's just insecurity in a man that causes us to feel like "the other man is going to get what I should be getting".
6. Motherly Love. Women are by instinct nurturers. They want to take care of their young and make sure their family is fed and warm and are happy and healthy. Women are loving and caring and purely historically they have been the ones that do the majority of the cooking and cleaning, carrying the babies, doing the shopping, and taking care of everyone in the family. The man brought home the bacon, and the woman cooked it. So the woman naturally felt the desire to do these things and felt honored and rewarded that the man came home and kissed her and let her go along with her daily routine. (I'm not saying it was right or wrong, I'm just saying that's how it was).
There are many more types of love that women can feel, because every woman is unique and special in her own way, but these are the main types of love that men and women feel. These are in no particular order, I just numbered them to keep it neat and clean looking. Keep in mind, there is more to love than what I've posted here and I will cover more topics about love in the future.
Love is love, and love means accepting you with all your imperfections. So next time when you tell someone you love them, make sure you know which kind of love you mean!
